It was my first time to attend a Triangulation Challenge and I really had no idea about the challenge. I thought it was something like a Barista Challenge but it’s not. This Caffe Bene Triangulation Challenge taught me how to distinguish the taste of coffee and how to tell which one is the best tasting coffee among all the choices.
Caffe Bene Triangulation Challenge
Triangulation, in relation to specialty coffee industry, is a specialized skill in cupping that sharpens one’s ability to differentiate coffees. It’s a standard sensory test, and is an essential skill for developing consistent and objective palate memory.
Learn. Taste. Win. That’s the tagline since you will learn about coffee first and how to prepare for the challenge. Afterwards, you have to taste and find the difference to win!
Mechanics:
Each contestant has to taste three variants of espresso blends. The two kinds of espresso blends will be from two local coffee chains while the third comes from Caffe Bene.
The contestants will triangulate 10 sets of coffee. For each of the set, there are three espresso blends to be tasted. The two blends are identical, and one is different.
The challenge is for the participant to find which the odd blend for each set. To do that, the contestant has to actually taste and experience as they triangulate each set.
For me, it was really challenging (hahaha)! It was really confusing, but eventually I was able to find the odd blend hehehe..
But as much as I would like to share my full experience about Caffe Bene Triangulation Challenge, I lost most of the pictures I took there. When I opened the folder, almost all the pictures were unable to open.
