I’ve always been a fan of online video games and I’m glad that there are lots of free version of these fun games without having to download huge files like before. In fact, these free online games won’t even take so much of your system’s memory like it used to be. No more hanging and crashing game issues in the middle of the fun and can also be played via a tablet or a smartphone.
Whenever I play online games, I look for these factors:
Educational
I want something that will not just give me fun but will gain and learn something.
Intellectual
Since I’m not getting any younger lol, I need more brain-boosting games! Kidding aside, I want to make sure that my mind will be sharpened, so I prefer brain-teasing challenges to improve my logical and critical thinking.
Stress-free
I play to relax my mind or release some tension from a stressful situation, and I don’t want to play and engage on something I will be more stressed lol.
No commitment
I only play games that won’t require my 100% attention where I need to skip work, meals or even bath time lol. I want something that I can play and pause or stop anytime I want to then go back whenever I can.
I came across Solitaire.org which I initially thought was just a classic card game, and something that I will be an addicted gambler haha. But, upon exploring the site, I was totally wrong. Though there are plenty of card games to choose from, which I have no idea on how to play haha, there are other games that captured my attention.
Below are the games I’m referring to, and I’m pretty sure, you’ll also enjoy like I did:
LETTER SCRAMBLER
Since grade school, scrabble is my favorite board game and it’s so amazing that there are different versions coming out. Solitaire.org has a unique version that really addressed my struggle: a co-player–someone to play with haha. With their Letter Scrambler game, I’m so glad I can play it alone. The challenge lies on how fast can you use those letters to create a word before the time runs out, how high you can score, how good you are to be able to reach your goals and climb up to the top level.
It’s almost the same with the word victory or boggle game too, it’s just that letters keep coming instead of the adjacent letters that come up after shaking the cube. You only have one minute to list all the words that you can come up with from the given letters.
DAILY CROSSWORD
Back when crossword puzzles are only available via newspapers, I can only check the correct answers if I’m gonna grab the next issue. Thanks to the online gaming world, I can verify my answers in a jiffy! With Solitaire’s version, I can play unlimited cross word puzzles anytime I want to finish it, but of course the faster the better because it will reflect how long you’ve solved it. What I like about Solitaire.org’s crossword puzzle is that aside from the 50-60 clues, letters turn green when you get the word correctly and will turn red when you have an incorrect answer.
If you want to play it offline, you can print the puzzle and solve it without the help of that changing color feature whenever you provide a correct or incorrect word.
DAILY WORD SEARCH
It’s a game to test how fast can you find the given words listed on the upper left corner of the screen.
You can find them either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally and either upward, downward, forward or backward. The listed word disappear once you’ve found it in the letter board and the word you’ve got will be shaded green. Once nothing is left on the list, it means you’re done and the time you’ve spent will appear on your certificate. What’s nice about it is that you can choose the language you prefer.
SOKOBAN PUZZLE
On top of the three games I’ve mentioned above, I highly recommend the Sokoban puzzle. But hey, I have to warn you: You’ve got to be sure that you’re free to play and will not be doing anything for the rest of the day, because it’s so addicting! I got so challenged and played as much as I can! There was even an instance where after I already solved it, I still got lost after repeating the game! And there’s also one puzzle that I really can’t solve! But I promised myself that I’ll get back at it and will still try my best to put all those boxes in their proper places.
There are lots of exciting games I tried including the classic Zuma in two different versions: the Zuma Ball and the Zuma Legend, and the Different Hidden Object games: Garden Secrets, Hidden Kitchen and the Medieval Castle Hidden Objects. I will come back for sure to play again all of these games.
If you want to improve your vocabulary and widen your general knowledge, I suggest you do the Daily Crossword puzzle. If you’re looking to strengthen your critical thinking skills, go for the Sokoban puzzle.
I will still update this post once I’ve finished one of the Sokoban puzzle I left and will share here how I completed it. In the mean time, check Solitaire.org and I assure you, you’ll keep coming back to play!
